Standing at 5 foot 9 in the 5th grade, this young man comes in with a huge smile every day. Always wearing basketball shorts with a wedgie, N allows all the ladies to go first when you open the door. He likes to give high fives and every once in awhile will give the Catholic "sign of the cross" during class. ( especially when I turn the air conditioning below 20 degrees Celcius)
This year, N has had a rough time personally. His grandpa and confidant just passed away. In the same week, his brother (and best friend) moved to the states for college. So much change for a 10 year old, in so little time.
Today, N was able to talk about his recent losses to our school counselor while tears strolled down his cheeks.
It just comes to show that teaching is not just a job. You become invested..you grow to love your students...they feel like your own.
For N, this year has been rough so far. But what courage he has to keep on going, even when his world just got turned upside down.
